Regular interaction with the mining and mineral industries of the country on different facets of geological expertise has led to a step up in consultancy and testing services in the recent years. Very recently the faculty members of this department has interaction between oil exploration companies.
The rich list of industrial collaborators include almost all leading organizations viz. Geological Survey of India, Indian Bureau of Mines, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Bharat Coking Coal Ltd., Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Ltd, Tata Iron and Steel Company, Bhaba Atomic Research Centre, Physical Research Laboratory, National Geophysical Research Institute, National Institute of Oceanography etc.
Apart from the collaborations with various national universities, presently the faculty members of the department are undergoing collaboration with foreign universities like University of Texas at Dallas, USA on Tectonics and Sedimentation, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois, USA on Stable isotope geochemistry of gold ores, Juniata College, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, USA on Re-Os collaboration, University of New Castle Upon Tyne, UK on Methane and carbon dioxide adsorption dynamics in coal. The Queens University of Belfast, UK on Stable isotope geochemistry of planktonic foraminiferal tests, Hokkaido University, Japan on mineralogical and petrochemical analysis of high-grade rocks, Kobe University, Japan on nano-scale deformation microstructure analysis under TEM.
